Feeling Jealous: Steve Derby envies football development in Maldives

Male', MALDIVES -
Malaysian outfit Perak’s English coach Steve Derby felt jealous to see the ongoing works in Maldives to improve football in the tiny island nation.

Perak is currently in Maldives to face New Radiant in their first AFC cup game in this year and Derby said in a news conference that football image in Maldives is totally different than what he saw the last time when he came to Maldives.

“When I cam here before, the FA (football association) was located in a small building” He started.

“There was only one pitch at that time but now I am seeing a totally different image”

“We have to work like this than only football will improve. I don’t see this kind of atmosphere in Malaysia, I am really feeling jealous” He added.

Derby, the former coach of Singapore’s Home United, further added that he don’t know much about football in Maldives but he tried to get more information.

“I tried a lot to get football information of Maldives, but I couldn’t succeed” He said.

New Radiant, the 2005’s semi finalists, will face Perak tomorrow in their first game of this year’s AFC Cup.
